So what comes after MWC?

February 25, 2010

Mobile World Congress was indeed a very busy time for us all here in the Vodafone Developer team but we’re so excited by all the amazing feedback and questions we’ve received we thought it would be good to share some of the other things we’re doing.

On Tuesday and Wednesday I was at Imperial College in London where we are working with the department of Social Computing to talk about something called the Imperial Challenge. It’s a widget creation competition for any student at Imperial where the prize is a summer internship at the Vodafone Group offices in London. I have been speaking to students over the last two days and it was great to see enthusiasm for not only the prize but also the technology behind it. There were also lots of questions around the state of the mobile industry today; where is it going, the impact of various devices and platforms (i.e. Symbian, iPhone, Android, LiMo, J2ME etc), and of course app stores. I’m sure I’ll have plenty of conversations like this going forward and I look forward to the judging panel session which is going to be much like the Vodafone AppStar Auditions we had at MWC .

So that was this week and next week we have a developer day in Sheffield which is shaping up nicely. We’ve had lots of feedback about running developer events in the UK outside of London so it something we’ve taken on board and in partnership with Screen Yorkshire we’ve pulled together an event which we think you will find pretty useful. It will go over what we’re doing along with some stories from other developers and chances to win prizes in a hackathon. Look forward to seeing you there!

Talking of which, I need to book my train ticket….Sanj
